Creamy Almond & Cashew Milk
Makes approx. 2L. Dairy Free, Gluten Free. Contains nuts.
This homemade nut milk is a healthier alternative, free from preservatives and additives, which means it is so fresh and flavourful. The healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals from almonds and cashews make it nutritious.
Dates (an optional but delicious addition) add natural sweetness, making this nut milk a healthier option with lower added sugars than some commercial alternatives.
Optional additions of cinnamon and vanilla essence round out the flavour quite nicely, but feel free to omit if it is not for you!
Create your own nut milk at home, for a wholesome, creamy and delicious drink that tastes so good! And better for you than many conventional store-bought nut milks.
Ingredients:
1 cup almonds
1 cup cashews
6-8 cups water (adjust based on desired creaminess)
1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
Optional: 2 Medjool dates (pitted)
Optional: Sprinkle of cinnamon & 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
Filtered water for soaking
Method:
Soak almonds and cashews in filtered water, for at least 4 hours or overnight. Strain in a sieve and rinse well.
Combine soaked nuts, dates, 6-8 cups of fresh filtered water, sea salt, cinnamon, and vanilla essence. Blend Ingredients in a blender, combine.
Strain the mixture using a nut milk bag, cotton produce bag, or a cotton tea towel over a sieve, strain the blended mixture.
Store and enjoy - refrigerate the nut milk and indulge within 4 days. It's not only delicious solo but also versatile in various recipes, such as a creamy base for smoothies, warm drinks, or in your muesli.
The recipe is adjustable, you can choose the level of creaminess, sweetness, and flavour to suit your preferences. It’s lovely making your own nut milk and you can really taste the difference it makes in your favourite recipes!
The homemade nut milk is typically best when consumed within 4 days if stored in the fridge. Make sure to check for any signs of spoilage, such as an off smell or changes in texture, before consuming.
